Overview

The Monster I Mean to Be is a text-based adult adventure for players who want shapeshifting fantasy with a mix of exploration and encounter-driven scenes. It keeps things loose and curious rather than heavy or plot-serious.

Story

A nameless slime wakes up in a forest world with no memory of its past. Guided by a natural gift for transformation, it sets out to explore the land, meeting monsters, humans, and demons along the way, hoping that one of them holds a clue to who it used to be.

Gameplay

Play centers on shifting between forms as you move through the forest world, using your slime's transformation ability to adapt to different creatures and situations you meet. Beyond changing shape, you can adjust individual body traits for each form and keep separate looks saved per shape, letting you approach humans, monsters, and demons in whatever body suits the moment. Encounters lean into flirtation and intimacy as much as discovery, with no fixed path forcing you toward a single outcome.

Features

  • Transformation system with per-form body customization for chest, ass, and genitals
  • Sandbox-style forest world with monsters, humans, and demons to meet
  • Wide cast spanning male, female, futa, and furry characters across gay and lesbian encounters

Installation

1. Extract and run.

Changelog

v0.1.2

  • Revamped the transformation system, now aside from changing into different forms you can also see and change the size of your body parts (Chest/Ass/Genitals). Each form has it's own saved sizes so you can have multiple body types between forms.
  • For now changing your body sizes is purely cosmetic, future updates will expand upon this mechanic to add new minigames and possible interactions that change depending on the state of your body.
  • Added a new item to the General Shop: Pocket Mirror. With this item you unlock the ability to transform at will mostly anywhere.
  • Added some clarifications about certain elements in the game.
  • Added the relationship level to romanceable characters' Journal entries.
  • Removed the "typewriter effect" at the start of the game.
  • Fixed a bug where as a human if you tried using the quick-change option to visit Cobalt you were teleported to the Goblin Village instead (Thanks to duskdawnuwu on Itch.io for the feedback!)
  • Set up a few hidden variables to prepare for future updates.
  • PS.: It's reccomended to start a new save for this update, the new transformation system will most definitely break older saves. I'm currently learning how to make older saves compatible with new updates so hopefully this is the last time this happens.

v0.1.1

  • Some quality of life fixes based on player feedback.
  • The starting character creation now goes faster and the typing effect can be skipped by clicking the game. Thanks to Bob69(F95) for the feedback!.
  • Now your unlocked transformations stay unlocked even after changing forms (Be careful, being defeated in combat will make you forget your current transformation and you'll have to use Essence to relearn it). Thanks to Hafiel(F95) for the feedback!
  • Added a quick-change option when you try to enter form specific areas, like the Human Town and the Goblin Village.
  • Fixed some text errors. Thanks to master4desaster(F95) for the feedback!
